About the book
The commemoration of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Abbaye de Saint-Feuillien provides a real opportunity to evoke the spiritual, economic, and social impact that the monastery had on the town of Le Roeulx and its region, from its founding in 1125 until its suppression after the French Revolution. This illustrated and documented work traces the history of the abbey and aims to faithfully revive the monastic architecture as well as the organization and management initiated by the Premonstratensian order, which animated this religious community for nearly 600 years. Previously, this study explores the exceptional journey of the Irish monk, Feuillien, originally from Connemara, a great preacher, martyred on our lands in Rhoes nearly fourteen centuries ago.

About the author
Benoît Hautenauve was a teacher, school principal, diocesan inspector, and then inspector of the pedagogical continuum. Alongside his professional responsibilities, he has always cultivated a true passion for history, which led him to write and publish numerous articles in the journal of the Cercle d’histoire Léon Mabille du Roeulx. Thus, in 1997, he authored a monograph dedicated to the final years of the ancient Abbaye de Saint-Feuillien du Roeulx.
